100% duurzame SAP
European top beverage companies have joined forces and formed a coalition and signed an agreement aiming for 100% sustainable juice and puree by 2030. Under the coordination the Sustainable Trade Initiative called IDH, the top beverage cooperations Döhler, Refresco, Friesland Campina Riedel and Verbruggen Juice Trading , commited to 100% sustainable juice by signing a global covenant.
While the juice and nectar consumption contained 38.5 billion litres worldwide in 2015, it stood at 9.6 billion litres in the EU, making it the largest consumption region. The companies’ progress towards the 100% sustainability they committed to, an independent intermediary party will monitor them. The commitment of the companies is to have 15% of their volume to source sustainable, increase this to 30% in 2020, to 75% in 2025 and to 100% in 2030.
The European Fruit Juice Association, AIJN, will be the party working on certification of the supply chains and they will jointly set up some projects to address specific sustainability issues.
The next steps of the alliance are to get the annual process monitoring in place, to set pre-competitive projects in the field and developing an activity plan for the first year.
The partner are also trying to inspire more similar companies to join this collaboration and work closely together to create a more sustainable supply chain.
