The world’s best brewers
Ratebeer recently announced the top 100 of ‘the best brewers’. These brewers have been rated by the consumer as the brewers who make the best beer in the world.
Ratebeer did this research by letting beer drinkers vote on its website. Remarkable is that Ratebeer lets the consumer decide what he or she finds the best, rather than an ‘expert’ as happens for example with Michelin stars in restaurants.
Despite the current developments in the beer world, many still think that the best beer still originates from the traditional Burgundian beer countries such as Belgium and Germany, and England. In fact it has been shown that this view will need to be gradually adjusted. This can be inferred from the top 5 below, chosen by the public.
1. Hill Farmstead Brewery
A small brewery located in Vermont. The lover of craft beer, in particular, will find his salvation here.
2. Toppling Goliath
The Toppling Goliath Kentucky Brunch has risen to the top as the best beer from this brewery from another test. For years Belgium was known as the country with the best beer in the world. Following the last official estimate this is no longer the case, the second best beer no longer comes from West-Vleteren, but from Iowa in the US.
The Danes also scored a nice little spot in the beer market with their Copenhagen brewer Mikkeller. Beer Geek Breakfast, a stout with the addition of coffee beans, has scored gold in 2006 at RateBeer. From that moment on, this brewer actually made a breakthrough.
4. Three Floyds Brewing Company
5. Dieu du Ciel
People in Canada have also been bitten by the beer bug. Dieu du Ciel comes from Montreal and in contrast with many other breweries, is situated in the city centre. At Dieu du Ciel you can also have a nice meal whilst enjoying a beer, really a very beautiful concept. Its best beer is the stout, with cocoa and vanilla beans, called the Aphrodiaque.
